Damien is the Chief Executive of Science Services Ltd, which is a company he has cofounded to provide expert scientific/technical advice and intellectual asset management support to assist public and private sector clients move into high-value goods, services and industries. He has a good deal of experience working both nationally and internationally with business and political leaders. He was the Chief Executive of the DDA from 1999 until July 2007 responsible for setting up the Agency from a Government White Paper concept to a successful technology brokerage and consultancy service making accessible the UK’s investment in defence technology for the benefit of wealth creation in the wider economy. The Agency pioneered and developed a unique approach for delivering Defence Diversification where none previously existed. Much of what the DDA started (getting more into and from the UK’s investment in defence research) is now embedded into MOD mainstream activity. He is a distinguished UK scientist, inventor and innovator and his achievements have been recognised with his appointment by the Queen as an officer of the Order of The British Empire (OBE) in 1997, an Honorary Professor and Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) for his work on Liquid Crystal Technology by the University of Hull and his election as a Fellow of the UK’s Institute of Physics. Damien’s impressive career in R&D has largely been within the UK MOD’s Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), where he managed the Imaging Sensors and Electronics Department of the Malvern based Electronics Division and then as their Commercial Director, he innovated patents and generated new income streams of over £120million establishing several joint technology ventures between DERA and global blue chip companies.
